In our 12th podcast episode in the Legendary Leaders series, we meet Ginny Baillie who is one of the first master certified coaches in the UK with over 20 years’ experience of coaching and founder of DRUM. Ginny talks about her current focus on working with self-sustaining and self-developmental organisations. She shares some guiding principles which is to be aware that we’re needed not possibly wanted at the beginning and wanted but not possibly needed at the end of the coaching process.
Ginny explains that the way that people ‘meet’ is highly important. By this she means having the confidence to listen and pay attention to someone else and trying stuff that can make you feel silly when meeting someone. Also, to understand even the quietest person in the room has something to contribute and parking your ego to listen and give your attention to others in the room.
Ginny talks to us about DRUM, which she describes as a vessel. She compares it to a drum that sits at the back of a band setting the rhythm and often starting things off. She explains how it involves leaders gathering around a theme, such as wanting to be a better leader or fear of failure. They gather with people curious about the same things through a 3-hour monthly video conference meeting, connecting with people all over the world.
Ginny talks about the importance of having confidence when it comes to how you like to do things as well as having confidence in your ideas. Essential to her success is her community of peers which she describes as what gets you through the challenging times. About Ginny Baillie MCC:
Coming from a background in property and stockbroking, Ginny’s voyage through supporting leaders to be the best they can be was inspired by her own shocking experience of working inside corporates. Gossip, innuendo, lies, scheming, career ruining management at worse and benign nothingness at best from various leaders led her to want to be part of the movement for better work experiences.
One of the first master certified coaches in the UK, with a body of experience spanning 22 years, Ginny’s work now is about connecting leaders with other leaders and their own resourcefulness through meeting in deep, rigorous and useful ways. Her guiding principle is ‘how leaders meet is more important than what they talk about’ and the business is called DRUM.
