Welcome to episode 16 of Legendary Leaders – The Podcast. In this episode we meet David Florence from the Evolution of Dave. Described as an evolutionary, David tells us about how he decided to make a change to his life after an unexpected hospital visit. He discovered the ‘wim hof’ method, a combination of meditation, breathing exercises, and exposure to cold which proved to be a game changer for David.


David shares his background as a recruiter and how he discovered his passion for helping others when he realised how his focus very much shifted to coaching and supporting people to find what they really want to do, rather than simply placing them in a job. David explains how he started using YouTube to record his journey. It was then that the realisation came that he was accumulating a lot of knowledge which had worked for him and how that put him in a good position to share this with others to help and guide them.


David highlights how overwhelm, stress and anxiety is common place and as a result people aren’t looking for solutions that mean them going away and doing some research or reading a book, as the fight or flight element of the brain is kicking in, and so people want an immediate solution. He also highlights how it can help by starting small when it comes to making a change. David states that by carrying out simple small tasks, your brain acknowledges the task completion as a green tick. He highlights the importance of a morning routine and takes us through what works for him.


David is a trained solar breath instructor which incorporates breathing to a rhythm with engaging music and combines healthy breath work with meditation. He points out how simple things like a few calm breaths can make such a difference to our bodies, particularly in moments of stress or overwhelm.


David’s leaves us with some advice - to understand early on what it is that you love to do and then just do it. If your love and passion for it stops, that’s fine, move on to something else, but as long as it’s there, don’t give up. He also talks about getting uncomfortable and how by having moments of being uncomfortable, you grow as your body adapts.
